Today I stand with head bowed down, troubles on my heart but at peace with the knowledge that I am powerless to do anything about them. I personally cannot remove the tumour on my sister's brain, I cannot make my friends in hospital heal any faster or suffer less. Nor can I heal the hearts of the hurting when they come to me for counsel. That is why my head is bowed. Not with the weight of troubles - but in prayer.

I cannot do the surgery my sister requires but I know that God has equipped others who can, and placed the right people in the right place to do exactly that. I cannot mend broken hearts and shattered dreams but I can help pick up the pieces. God has said that when we bring our prayers to Him he will listen and answer and that when two or more of us gather in His name - well then powerful things happen!

So I don't want to waste time imagining what could go wrong when I could use that time thanking God for that person and for the fact that He is taking care of them right at that very moment. As much as you or I may care for and love someone who is suffering, we must never forget that God's love for them is even greater and He has only what is best for them in His heart.  So today I bow my head, bend my knees and lift my heart to the most Almighty God, who created the Universe and yet loves tiny little us so completely.  I ask our heavenly Father to have His Hand on their lives to heal them, to make the Surgeons steady and sure in their actions and to keep these wonderful people with us here on earth for a much longer period. I thank God for the gift of life that He has given to each and every one of them and I ask Him to give them all a much longer time in which they can bring glory to Him and witness of His amazing love and supreme healing powers.

We are never helpless. We have prayer. The most amazing, awesome gift that you can imagine and yet which is so under-rated. God hears the prayers of the righteous. So when your heart is filled with the right intentions, and you present your requests before God, He will hear you ahd He will answer you. He may not always give you the answer you want but He will always give you the BEST answer.

"Out of the ashes, beauty will rise, and we will dance among the ruins, we will see it with our own eyes" so sings Steven Curtis Chapman in his song Beauty Will Rise. All I can do, is hope that it is true. This year has been a nasty one filled with death and illness and destruction.

I will be attending my third funeral tomorrow for the year that makes it one a month so far since the year began - I hope the trend now stops. The devastation that has wrecked Japan recently as well as Christchurch in New Zealand and the other countries that have been battered by natural disasters have numbered more in three months than what we generally get worldwide in as many years! Now the countries in northern Africa and the middle east are at the brink of civil wars, with innocent women and children getting caught up in the crazy political battles. I agree that it is time for the despots like Gaddaffi to be removed from power, such a pity though that so many innocent people have to die to achieve it.

To add to all of this there is the small day to day problems and hurts like finding out that a friend that you counted as really special, doesn't consider you important at all. Or the work you have been doing with such enthusiasm gets 'rubbished' by the people you were doing it for with one or two nasty comments.  I'm sure that you can add to the list, but I'm not  going to - it's too depressing and right now I want to put my hope in Jesus because I know that only by walking with Him, trusting Him and letting Him be my guide am I going to make sense of all the madness in this world....

Sun, 06 Mar 2011 08:49:00 -0800 Church Family http://sujihill.posterous.com/church-family http://sujihill.posterous.com/church-family

Today was Sunday - the day I gathered with my Church family to celebrate the God that we love, worship, and serve. What an honour! To be with the people that I am going to spend eternity with, people who have stood by me when I've been through hard times, who have prayed for me when I've been ill or facing difficulties. Brothers and sisters who have reminded me that God is my strength when I have none of my own and people who have allowed me to be me and encouraged me to grow.

What a difference to the family I was born into - whom I love dearly by the way, but its funny how they hang onto the mistakes I made and just can't seem to get past them,  how their slightly condescending air towards my love for the Lord makes it difficult to share the joy I feel in knowing Him.

However, that's not what I started writing about - this is a celebration of the chance that God gave me to be part of another family, where He took me out of a place of isolation and placed me with people who were strangers but who now hold special places in my heart. I think that this is how God wants the Church, the body of Christ to be - united, loving each other, supporting each other through each others trials, helping those that stumble or stray and bring them lovingly back. Thank you Lord for both families that You gave me, help me to reflect Your love to both.

I love this song so much and with all the drama of my silly health issues, my sister's breast cancer and my uncle's lung cancer - all in the last few months - when I hear these lyrics I can almost feel God wrapping His arms around us and holding us safe!

Wed, 16 Feb 2011 10:06:00 -0800 YES and AMEN!! http://sujihill.posterous.com/yes-and-amen http://sujihill.posterous.com/yes-and-amen

I think I must be driving the members of the worship team crazy with my fixation with this song by Matt Redman, but somehow the lyrics just resonate within me and I feel that it is what God is wanting us as a church to do - to stand up and say Yes to Him, to whatever He calls us to do. It fits in so timeously with what is being preached about right now, i.e 'Now You Make the Difference' where we are to start getting off our comfy chairs and doing the things God calls us to. No matter how small or big the task, they are all important in God's eyes. He may call us to pray for a colleague, or to reach out to someone and comfort them, to plant a church or feed the hungry; we don't know what He is going to ask us to do, but the more we respond in obedience, the more we say YES to Him, the more we shall see the AMEN's taking place!

Apart from the lyrics though, the song is such a 'congregational' song, so worshipful, and so filled with a passionate desire for obedience that singing this song from the heart can only change you. I am certain that radical things will happen in people's lives as they allow the words of this song to go from their heads to their hearts!

But what do I know anyway......

Fri, 04 Feb 2011 08:01:57 -0800 Cancer and unbelief http://sujihill.posterous.com/cancer-and-unbelief http://sujihill.posterous.com/cancer-and-unbelief

What do you do when someone you love casually tells you they have cancer and, no big deal, they have to have a breast removed? To top it all they are on the other side of the world and even if they weren't you can't do anything about it! You pray and you thank God for the fact that He is in control and that He can use all situations to advance His kingdom. My sister is the only Christian in her family with her husband and older son fiercely opposing any belief in God and ridiculing her for her faith (her younger son, at age 8 is starting to follow their example). I can only pray that not only will God heal her but that out of this situation her menfolk will come to know the Lord as they see His hand at work and His miracles touching her.

Thu, 03 Feb 2011 07:30:00 -0800 Dust, Dreams and Answered Prayers http://sujihill.posterous.com/dust-dreams-and-answered-prayers http://sujihill.posterous.com/dust-dreams-and-answered-prayers

With the recent onset of asthma and, for whatever reason, an irritation in my vocal chords, any vague dream I once held (from way back in my childhood) of singing somewhere other than in the shower, has now finally turned to dust. And with it a strange peace that I never had before. Perhaps it is the release of never having to 'fail' at my dream, or perhaps it is the fact that maybe, just maybe, I was beginning to accept that it wasn't going to happen anyway and now that it can't I can let go and move on to other things.

Funny how God takes away one dream and replaces it by answering another. I have, for many years, been asking if I can participate in assisting the worship team with its administration, but there was never a need. Now the team is growing as is the church and, in God's time, my prayer's have been answered.  I can only hope that the answer to my prayer will also be a blessing to the team as they so faithfully serve the Lord and the church.
